About Us

Lawson Construction Co., Inc. was established in April 1990. The owner and president, Roger D. Lawson, began his career in construction in 1976 as a carpenter. He found he had a talent and a love for building. He enjoyed taking the blueprints and watching a house evolve as he progressed through it. He still feels the same way today.

He formed a partnership in 1978 with Steve Haynes. They worked together framing and trimming new homes and remodeling until 1990. During that time Roger became very good at what he did and was well known for his expertise in complex roof systems. In 1990 Roger and his partner Steve dissolved the partnership amicably. Steve continued on with his sons in the business.

Roger continued on in the construction business with 2 employees who had been with him since 1981. He earned his contractor's license in 1990 and started building custom homes and an occasional speculative home. Within a short period of time most of the business was consumed by custom homes. All of his clients came to him by word of mouth, no advertising. He had built the business on his reputation of honesty, pride in his work, and superior quality in the homes he built. He was different than a lot of contractors at that time, in that he preferred to be a "hands on" builder. He actually worked on the job sites himself. He made sure everything was on schedule. He figured and ordered the materials. He kept the homes and the grounds clean on a daily basis while the construction was in progress. He opened up the homes first thing in the morning and locked them up last thing in the evening. If he saw something he didn't like he called a sub back out to correct it.

Roger still works the same way today. He still does some things the old fashioned way. He grew up on a farm knowing what hard work and good work ethics meant. He worked in tobacco as a young man, drove a school bus, and worked in the textile plant in the evenings while in high school. He takes a plan and the owner's specifications and personally does all the footwork to price out materials and labor to estimate the cost of the home according to those specifications. That way an owner can determine if they need to pare back some to meet their budget or if they can add any extras they are thinking about. It gives the homeowner a target to focus on when the construction begins. The homeowner receives an update monthly detailing where they are as far as cost and what is left. He gives homeowners ideas on how they can best utilize space in the home in an effort not to waste any space. Roger does not like to see wasted space in a house because he feels that you don't get your money's worth if you are not utilizing every available inch of additional space. He shops for the best value in materials and the best quality in subcontractors. Our subcontractors are all tried and true, many of them working with us in excess of 15 years.

Lawson Construction Co., Inc. (Roger D. Lawson, Contractor) is centrally located in Davidson County in the Piedmont/Triad of North Carolina. The business is located in the city of Lexington. We build in Davidson County, Davie County, Forsyth County, High Rock Lake, and other areas as the need arises. We meet with our customers in a casual atmosphere, not a big office in some downtown location. Roger does not feel the need for the trappings of big offices. With very little overhead he can easily pass the savings on to his customers. He meets with his clients on the screen porch in the summer and in the great room in the winter in the home he originally built as a young man in 1976. Roger chooses to impress people with his years of expertise and knowledge of building great quality homes instead of trying to impress with an ornate office in a downtown location.

The quality is the same for either and we still give our undivided attention to you, the details and progress on your home. Our goal is to guide you through the challenges of building a new home and ease your mind so that your experience will be a pleasant one. You can feel confident in our knowledge and years of experience. We don't stop taking care of our customers just because a home is completed. We take care of our customers for the first year beyond completion. We are there if you need us beyond the first year.
